Turning up the heat on Snowball Earth

There is evidence to suggest that some past ice ages were so severe that they led to ice and snow cover reaching almost to the equator and covering the globe. This talk will look at these events and their possible causes, and will highlight current researches at the University of Birmingham (focussing on the island of Svalbard in Norway) which help us to reconstruct continental environments during extreme glaciations in the context of theories of extreme ice ages.
