Blackcountryman Index
A simple index, each page covers 1 volume (4 issues) of the
magazine of The Black Country Society. The article and Author
columns are self explanatory, as are volume and issue. The "notes"
section is basically a list of keywords I have jotted down whilst
I have been reading each article. This may be towns, particular
trades or industries, just enough to let someone do a keyword
search for articles they are interested in.
The final column "Names" was the most difficult, both in terms
of time to complete, and what names to include. I have tried to
avoid duplication, hence you will sometimes see multiple forenames
and only one surname, if a name is mentioned in the article title
(e.g. the subject of a biography) I have not duplicated. I have
also excluded names that are clearly of people not born or living
in the black County at the time the article is set. Also, unless
they are unusual sounding surnames I have not included an initial
with a surname (what use J. Smith or A. Jones?), similarly whilst
there are a few surname only entries, there are not many. It has
also occurred to me that very few of the entries specify time
periods, this may be something I will add later (time permitting).
To search this page for a keyword in Internet Explorer go
to the "edit" dropdown menu, select "find (on this page)" and
type in your keyword or surname of interest. This will let you
see any occasion of your word at any point in the list and allow
you to search again for the next keyword.
Good luck with searches, if you find an entry you think is
relevant then you need to find a copy of the magazine to read
the article. I have a supply of the later magazines for sale,
any magazines I cannot supply I am able to scan or photocopy for
a small contribution to the society. I can accept Paypal for those
payments, or cheques (drawn on UK bank) or even currency (Sterling,
Euros and US dollars only)
Now that I have moved this part of my site to the Black Country
Society site I hope to add more facilities. Search facility coming
very soon (21/12/05), this will be from Picosearch and wil enable
a search of the entire site not just this index. The instructions
above will still be relevant once you have found something of
interest within a volume.
