There are 3 Second World War related items in this issue, two book reviews and an article. The book about Frank Foley who retired to Stourbridge gives some idea of what we in Britain narrowly escaped. Dr. Jack Martin's fascinating article is about British Intelligence and the part played by Walsall born Harry Hinsley in Britain's "holding the fort" until "The new world came to the rescue of the old". The other review deals with an aspect of the latter. The book concerned demonstrates why the ultimate outcome of the war was inevitable.
I hope that all readers will find something of interest among the other dozen or so articles an all the other bits and pieces, ranging from our Black Country Personality to a survey of interesting trees in the area via several industrial items and reminiscences.
The Committee will be reporting at the Annual General Meeting on 24th March on the last financial year and we hope for a good attendance. Last year was very busy and the current year is proving to be even busier with meetings and publications. We look forward to members not involved with the administration of the Society volunteering to help.
