Mining

The importance of mining cannot be understated in any history of the Black Country. This topic is a favourite of mine as many of my ancestors were involved in the industry in the mid to late 19th century in the Dudley area. Here you will find a history of the development of mining as well as many stories of pit disasters, miners' own tales as told by their relatives, or even the miners themselves. Some insight into mining techniques and developments will also be included, as will links to resources available to understand the industry as it was on the web. Finally, for the reader who wishes to find out more, a bibliography of printed material will be included.
